Projektbeschreibung:

After 1990 extreme right-wing groups have appeared in Hungary, which openly own Arrow Cross and Nazi traditions, too. This can be well observed in the adoption and emulation of the symbolisms of the right-wing movements in the interwar period in general, and in the 1930s and 1940s in particular. The successors today either do not know, or, what is worse, they know perfectly well what symbols they are using.. In the exhibition the Árpád-striped flag, the flags of Kings Emeric, Saint Ladislas and Mathias Hunyadi and of Prince Ferenc Rákóczi, as well as the turul bird are displayed as historical relics, which have nothing much in common with today’s usage..Making use of original newsreel footage, posters, leaflets and everyday objects, the exhibition shows the way the cult of Trianon developed after World War I. What the Allied victors committed at Trianon was indeed more than a crime, it was a grave mistake — pushing millions of Hungarians into minority a position. That grievance linked up with the search for a symbol by the increasingly stronger political right. The turul’s „change of function”, its becoming at that time a favourite symbol of anti-Semites and irredentists, fits in that process..After 1930 the anti-Semitic, antidemocratic, and irredentist extreme right continued gaining strength The Arrow Cross used the Árpád-striped flag as an irredentist symbol, but by the early 1940s they had turuls on their flagpoles clutching the arrow cross. The re-annexation of some of the lost territories between 1938 and 1941 with Nazi and Fascist help, however, strengthened not the Hungarian extreme right, but the regime of Miklós Horthy, the „augmenter” of the country. Who later, in keen competition with the similarly Nazi collaborationist Slovakia and Rumania, attacked the Soviet Union, thus bringing about the destruction of his regime and a replay of the Trianon peace dictate..The last third of the exhibition presents how the cult of Trianon and Horthy was revived after 1990, and what familiar symbols the Hungarian extreme right uses. Exploiting to a considerable extent both the political mistakes of the democratic forces and the general insensitiveness concerning symbols, the extreme right has appropriated the flag of the Árpád dynasty and the turul bird..This exhibition is, therefore, an attempt to „reclaim” these historical relics...Opening hours.Thuesday- Sunday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.(except Mondays)..Ticket price.Full price ticket: 800 HUF.For citizens of EU between 62-70 400 HUF.For citizens of EU between 6-26.with international student card 100 HUF
